Food Photography Book

Yay !! I am here writing about one of my virtual mentor Corinna Gissemann’ s Food Photography Book and a worldwide giveaway !!!

I have been blogging for nearly  8 years and have learnt over the period that creating a successful appealing food photograph is not easy at all. One really doesn’t need to have all the fancy gadgets to achieve it.  There goes a lot of planning and preparation behind every successful image. Its all about what appeals right in the picture to you!!

Food Photography Book

I guess about 1 1/2 years ago, I came across Corinna Gissemann’s work in Food Photography group in Facebook. At the first sight, I was totally stunned. What amazed me was her Behind the Scene Images accompanying the appealing images.  Let me tell you, as I started following her work , I would ritually wait to see her new creation and learn something new everyday.

I do owe a lot of credit to my Dark Moody Images to her. Not only did I get inspired from her pictures, but also learn’t so much. There are so many times, I have written to her, sending my image across for critic and she would come back with some amazing tips. Corinna’s work has groomed me to be a better photographer over the years!!! I am extremely thankful to her for this.

Then when the folks at RockyNook asked me if I would like to review a copy of her book, I was literally jumping ( Read like my little girl).  Corinna’s Food Photography Book is a great guide for starters, where she shows its quite possible to take great photos without fancy gear or studios and with some basic techniques and tricks.

This book is classified into 11 chapters. Each Chapter is clearly explained for any layman to understand.

What Gear Do You Need?
Basics
Lighting
Image Design and Composition
Styling
Five Food Photography Projects
Image Processing with Lightroom
Tips and Tricks
Homemade Props
How to Boost Your Creativity
Now It’s Your Turn

Every Chapter is detailed with enough examples and behind the scene images to learn on the go. This book can be really handy to new bee’s into food photography to understand the question “Why?” and “How?”

My favourite chapter from the book is Five Food Photography Projects where Corinna walks you through 5 examples in detail, right from setting up the table, direction of light, choosing the prop, Food placement arrangements and final shot.

I still have so much of takeaway from Corinna’s Food Photography book, everytime I flip a few pages.

  • I’ve always been rather ashamed to share my food photos on my blog even though i actually love some of the recipes ideas my photos never seem to do it justice. My husband has recently got a new camera and I finally feel the potential is there for me to pick up his camera and try to learn to get some good images. He seems to be learning some tips for taking wildlife photos and i wish I could do the same for my passion which is food!

  • I’m hoping to learn how to take better food photos to use to illustrate the recipes on my blog – at the moment I know they look very amateurish, and although I have an excellent camera I always keep it set to automatic because i’m not sure what else to do
