How to make Red, White, and Blue Candy Bark?
The recipe is simple and straightforward.
- First, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave in bursts of 10 seconds in a microwave safe bowl or use a double boiler method. Then pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared pan lined with parchment paper and smooth the top with a knife.
- Next, melt the red candy melt and blue candy melt separately in the microwave. To do so, melt the candy melts in increments of 20-second intervals, stirring in between. At approximately 1 minute to 1 minute 20 seconds, the candy melts will be smooth.
- Add drops of red and blue candy melts into the white chocolate candy bark. Stir with a toothpick or a skewer to create a swirl. Then, stir in your favorite topping like star sprinkles or blue M&M’s or candies.
- Place the baking sheet in the freezer and freeze for 20 minutes. Remove from the freezer, break them randomly, and enjoy. You can make these Patriotic Chocolate Bark with Candy Melts too. Once made, store in the fridge in airtight container to maintain its freshness.
Variations:
Not a fan of white chocolate? You can make Patriotic bark with Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, Milk chocolate, or dark chocolate too. Spread a layer of milk chocolate or dark chocolate on a lined baking sheet with parchment paper in an even layer. Then add melted white blue and red candy melts.
Create a swirl, add sprinkles or your favorite toppings like nuts or marshmallows too.
Freeze it until the bark is set. Then break the bark into pieces. Store it at room temperature in an airtight container.
Tips to keep in mind while handling white chocolate
White Chocolate can Seize and become lumpy quickly. So, there are a few important tips to keep in mind. Chop the white chocolates into small uniform sizes and place them in a bowl that sits snugly on top of a saucepan filled with minimal water. The bowl should not come in contact with water in the saucepan as this can cause overheating and cause the chocolates to seize.
Allow the water to boil on low simmer. Stir often with a silicone spatula to ensure they are melting well. You can also melt the white chocolate in the microwave too. But remember to melt at half the power and be watchful.
ERRORS THAT CAN HAPPEN WITH WHITE CHOCOLATE:
I had a huge lump of chocolate seizure as there was some contact of water with the ladle used for stirring the chocolate. Another instance of burning happened as the power of the microwave was too high.
Storing Red White Blue Barks:
Once made, store the Red, White & Blue Chocolate Bark in the refrigerator in an airtight container to maintain their freshness. They can last for up to two weeks when stored properly, making them perfect for snacking or serving at holiday parties. For Halloween, consider packaging them in festive bags or containers for a spooky treat!
