IS COOKING WITH AN AIR FRYER HEALTHY FOR YOU?

Cooking with an Air fryer offers no compromise on taste. Most dishes that require deep frying can be prepared in an air-fryer. This gadget works by circulating hot air around the food to produce a crunchy crispy texture with minimal oil or no oil. Air fried food is a healthy alternative to deep-fried food, all thanks to the lower amount of calories and fat.

what are the Ingredients for making air fryer tofu?

Ingredients to make Crispy Tofu - Airfryer

Essentially we just need 4 ingredients to make crispy tofu. But I have taken liberty to season it a little more. Feel free to marinade your prepared tofu to a sauce or a dressing of your choice.

To start with, the very first essential ingredient is EXTRA FIRM TOFU. I like to flavor it with Soy Sauce or Tamari Sauce to lend a twist with Asian flavors. Third essential ingredient is STARCH – Corn Starch or Potato Starch both work very well.  They add the crispiness to the edges of the tofu when fried.

Fourth essential ingredient is Oil. Adding a little to the tofu adds extra flavor overall.

Extra firm Tofu – With trial and error, we have come to a conclusion extra firm tofu works best for frying. There are a couple of varieties available in the market that needs pressing out all the extra water. I have found a brand called Tofoo that doesn’t require any squeezing or pressing. Simply drain the water from the packet. Dry it with a towel and cube it.

Soy Sauce or Tamari Sauce – lends amazing flavors. If you are looking for gluten free option Tamari Sauce is best friend.

Oil – I love the flavor of Sesame oil in these tofu crispy.  However Olive Oil or any other oil also works.

Cornstarch – add the crispness to the corners of the tofu while frying.  For a GF option, rice flour is  the recommended choice. Other starch that you can use are potato starch or even arrowroot.

Other seasoning – Garlic powder, onion powder, paprika powder and black pepper adds all the extra magic to these delicious tofu.

Air fry for 12 -14 minutes. Remember to shake the crispy tofu every 4 minutes, so they cook uniformly. Check and cook if needed for another 2 -5 minutes to make crispy coated tofu. Perfect Tofu!

In this case, our perfect tofu tend to get a bit soft, when it turns cold. Not to worry, Just Return the tofu  back to air fryer for 2-3 minutes and see them turn crispy. Serve HOT!

Remember one thing time needed to cook tofu can vary between Airfryer models. Some might require slightly longer time to cook, some might require lesser time.

The key is to start with 10 minutes of frying and increase accordingly. Do remember to shake the tofu in the basket in between.

USES FOR CRISPY AIRFRYER TOFU

There are plenty of ways to incorporate the crispy tofu.  You can use them in Thai Peanut Noodles or even in my 15 minutes Cauliflower Fried Rice.

I love adding the crispy perfect tofu in Thai red curry and Green curry too. But the marination will be slightly plain. Simply leave out soy sauce and toss them in the remaining ingredients for max flavours.

You can even substitute these crispy tofu  for paneer in my Palak Paneer. Just use Indian seasoning for marination.

I love stuffing them in my pita bread along with salad to make it heart meal too.
