Front Garden Makeover

Front Garden is the segment of the house that we are more likely to see! Irrespective of the season.. So this portion of the house must look welcoming not just for visitors but for us too.

Spring is finally here in the UK and this calls for massive decluttering, tidying and gardening. Over and above we call Spring the time for garden makeovers!

Yes, its nearly going to be 2 years since we moved into this gorgeous house! We spent our year on the maintenance of our lawn backside, taking appropriate steps as needed and its just beautiful now.

When it came to the front garden, we managed to clear the literally half grown jungle - all the unmaintained plants, weeds and what not !! It took us extra muscle powers for the weekends but we were so pleased with our efforts. After receiving advise from a local gardening centre, we planted a few evergreen plants/ shrubs, in the hope they would yield a good bulk all year round. But something went wrong for sure!!

As months passed by, these plants began to wield away and yet again they looked like a piece of mess. Trust me!! Day in Day out, every time we parked our car by the front yard, we hated the sight! I really don't know what kind of opinion would the neighborhood have upon us!!

Our Front Yard is actually spread out into 4 small areas, of which 1 area particularly required a lot of attention. There other three areas required just a regular maintenance.

We were eagerly waiting for Spring, just to spruce up our garden!! Hanging baskets, neatly mowed lawns, garden furniture out of the cover, front garden....!
But the thought of front garden kept putting us away.. until the lovely team at Fantastic Services got in touch. The Gardening Team expert visited us a few days before to examine the area and then suggested us what we could actually do to give the front garden a makeover! They took a few days to actually come back with the quote and materials that will be needed for the work. The Team quoted an approximate of 5 hours of work with 2 gardening experts!!

After a careful discussion at home, we decided to pick the materials ourselves and let the experts do the rest. We live in a location where we have atleast 3 gardening centre's , DIY shops & a COSTCO locally and we were so keen in actually window shopping first and then handpicking all the materials.

It was a pleasure deciding on what kind of shrubs to pick, what should be the color of the bark, do we need a boundary panel or not? And yeah.. Should we plant the shrubs in pots or should we plant them in the flower bed?
There is so much to learn as and when we step into a new subject! But its totally worth it.

We boiled on the following list of materials for the job

5 Buxus Shrubs
5 Plastic Planters Pots
12 Bags of 70l Pine Colored Barks
3 Bags of 120 l Compost.
1 Large roll of Weed Membrane
10 Forest Picket Fence Garden Edging

The front garden makeover had to happen last week, but the uninvited Beast from the East visited us and we had to reschedule the appointment to this weekend.

The wait was totally worth it!! If you had a chance to see my Instagram Stories yesterday, you would have known how quick the team actually got to work and transformed the front yard.I have added the pictures/ videos to the highlights.. so just in case you have missed it, do check it out.

Two lovely folks from the gardening team arrived a little after 10 am - Alex and Boris!! The team has an hour of the window to arrive than the provided time.. Both of them sprung to action straight on.

They came around and quickly asked me to remind them what was agreed and they got onto the task in the next 5 minutes.

Area One with 3 rose plants and 2 lavender plants were sorted in just 10 minutes! I am not exaggerating at all.. We remember trying the tidy that area last year by our selves and it did take us about 2 hours in total.

The gardening services experts from Fantastic Services planted 2 rose plants into the ground, removed all the weeds, trimmed the lavender and added the barks to give it brand new look.

Area Two is the portion of the front garden that required maximum attention. As discussed, they pulled out all the plants, cleared the weeds, added compost to the soil, added a weed membrane ( which was not discussed before) and added the barks. They potted the shrubs in the pots and spruced up the whole area altogether. Then to give this area a final touch, the team placed the wooden planters along the edges of the flower bed.

The team was really kind in laying the weed membrane to prevent the weeds from growing, even though it was not agreed before. But we also made their jobs a lot easier by asking them to plant the shrubs in the pots and not in the soil as agreed:)

They also trimmed the hedges overlooking the fence a bit but I really wish they could have done a little more. The gardening team mentioned they have a certain height limit until which they could actually do it and hence they have a fairly small ladder for this job. The team suggested it's the job for the tree surgeon to actually sort the rest of hedges.

This was a small concern that I wasn't sure how the customer would actually be able to draw a line on whom to speak to for this service - gardening service or a tree surgeon.

Anyways, its always good to know as we can be prepared the next time! The team then planted all the plants into the small patch that we had created earlier. The also trimmed the hedges by the patch

Area Three is the segment of the yard with loads of shrubs ( requiring very little maintenance) and the only bit that was appealing earlier. The team trimmed the shrubs and also planted one of the plants that were pulled out before.

Area Four is the last section of the front yard that has 2 medium sized trees and lots of bulbs around it. The team trimmed portions of the tree that were overlooking the road, trimmed the outgrown bulbs, laid the weed membrane and added the barks.

Overall, it was a WoWzer!! In just about 4 hours, the whole front garden was transformed from a mess to something really beautiful!! We have had a lot of compliments from next door neighbors and friends who have visited us last evening and today.

I have to really thank the gardening services team at fantastic services for providing this complimentary service which has actually made our lives a lot better. We are loving every bit of this change .Our front garden has a welcoming outlook with a structure now!!

We had the cleaning team at Fantastic Services before Christmas and our house was thoroughly cleaned in and out preparing for the guests. Do check out the post - One Off Cleaning Services by Fantastic Services

Amazing post shared! Front gardens are special and very different from rear gardens, for a start they are for show not for relaxation, and for kerb appeal, not for parties and play.
