Vegan MANGO LASSI SMOOTHIE RECIPE

We are huge fans of mangoes in our house. Every year, when fresh mangoes are in season, I love to treat my family to a variety of  mango delicacies. Be it Alphonso, Kesar, or Ready to eat ones from Tesco!

This thick, creamy and sweet mango drink is just like a smoothie and great for breakfast too!  Breakfast has never been so easy!  Sometimes I fail to understand the difference between smoothie and lassi. Both are yogurt-based drinks except they are named differently across the world.

Luckily in the UK, when fresh mangoes are not in season, we get tins of mango pulp readily available in any grocery store.  So, it’s time for Sweet Mango Lassi all year round at our place!  Quick & Easy recipe!  I also love to make Vegan Mango Desserts just like this Vegan Mango Sorbet

You can also use this easy mango lassi drink recipe as a base to make any other fruit smoothies like this Strawberry Lassi that are perfect for breakfast too.

What is Mango Lassi ?

Mango Lassi is a popular yogurt-based drink from the Indian subcontinent.  It’s a favorite drink commonly found in restaurant menu cards. Mango Lassi is made with three ingredients – Mango, Yogurt, and Cardamom.

Sweet and Savoury versions of Lassi are made in every household in India all year round.

Cucumber Lassi & Masala Chaas are two of my favorite savory lassi recipes. However, there are plenty of sweet ones.

Mango Lassis are a popular drink, commonly found in the menu cards of most Indian restaurants in the UK. Visit any Indian restaurant and my family orders this favorite mango lassi, poppadoms & mint sauce, and onion bhaji to start with. Good news! you can make your favorite Vegan Lassi with mangoes too, in a similar way.

Ingredients for Mango Lassi

Ingredients You’ll need for Vegan Indian lassi

You will only need 3 Ingredients and may be some water or cold milk to make this Easy Peasy Vegan Lassi.

Mango – Fresh sweet Mango, frozen mango cubes, or Mango Puree – all forms of mango works great for this recipe. I have used KTC Kesar Mango Pulp, as it is always readily available in the pantry. Alphonso or Kesar Mango Pulp is easy to buy from the Asian Isle at Tesco, Sainsburys or ASDA.

Yogurt – I like to use thick and creamy yogurt or even greek yogurt.  For a vegan alternative, I like to use coconut yogurt or almond yogurt.

Ground Cardamom powder – adds the richness to this Indian lassi.

Cold Water or Milk – is optional.  I like to add a splash of milk or water to dilute the consistency of my lassi if it’s too thick. If you hate milk, simply add a little more yogurt and adjust the consistency.

Garnishes are completely optional too. Add a pinch of saffron or even pistachio for additional flavor. Some people also enjoy adding a splash of rose water. All these garnishes makes the Lassi a restaurant style mango lassi recipe.

TIPS & SUGGESTIONS for MANGO SMOOTHIE LASSI

Cold Water / Cold Milk  – Add water or cold milk to adjust the lassi to a desired consistency. I did not add any of them to my drink.

Use Ice cubes if you like the lassi colder.

How to make Lassi with frozen mango?

Frozen mango cubes also works great in this recipe. Use a high speed blender to blend smooth when you are working with frozen fruits.

Can I use sour yogurt for making lassi?

If you find your yogurt a bit sour, adding milk will adjust the flavors of the lassi.

Can you make Vegan Mango Lassi?

This recipe can be easily made vegan. Use coconut yogurt or almond yogurt. Use any vegan milk or water instead of plain milk.
