HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN PUREE FROM SCRATCH

is something that a lot of family friends ask me? Well, there are many methods as listed below.

  • Quick and easy method is the Pressure Cooker / Instant Pot Method
  • Oven Roasting is the Second method and this method is slightly
  • Microwave Method
  • Cooking on the Stove top

Of which, my favourite two methods are Pressure Cooker Pumpkin Puree & Oven method Puree from Pumpkin.

I call Pressure Cooker method really easy and quick, because all you need to do, is to place the whole pumpkin in the Instant Pot and pressure cook. Allow the pressure to release naturally!  Only if the pumpkin is too large, you will need to cut them into half or cut the top off.

One important tip *** Depending on the size of the pumpkin, cooking time will vary between 10-14 minutes.

CAN YOU FREEZE THE PUREE

You can certainly freeze the pumpkin puree. Once the Puree is ready, place them in zip lock bags { labelled } and you are all set to have pumpkin puree supply all year long. I have stored my puree for 6 months earlier.

Puree does stays fresh for about 3-4 days in the refrigerator, if you would like to use it fresh. They are a great alternative to canned pumpkin puree.

HOW TO TELL IF THE PUMPKIN IS RIPE

You will know the Pumpkin is ripe, when

COLOR IS ORANGE.  If the pumpkin has a uniform orange color, it is considered ripe.

GIVE THE PUMPKIN A THUMP. If the sound is hollow, pumpkin is ripe

THICK SKIN. When the skin of the Pumpkin is hard, it is considered ripe. A great test will be – to puncture the skin of the pumpkin with your finger nail. If the skin doesn’t puncture, you know the pumpkin is ripe and ready to picked.
