Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

PRESSURE COOKER CORN ON THE COB

Growing up in India, my mum would could cook literally every single thing in the pressure cooker. She would buy the Fresh Corn Ear with Husk on from the market and either steam it in pressure cooker or grill it on stove top. Either-ways, we loved it with lots of topping choices.

Cooking Fresh Corn on the Cob in Pressure Cooker was kind of a norm at home. Our stove top pressure cookers requires a bit of baby sitting and watching the time with the number of whistles on.  Fast forward to the era of Electric Pressure Cookers like Instant Pot, Pressure King Pro etc,  it has become much more easier and quicker. There is no looking back!

And we have one of the easy recipes ready in no time!

Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

THIS CORN ON THE COB INSTANT POT

  • is one of the easy dishes and one of  fast ways of making tender, crisp & juicy corn.
  • requires no baby sitting until its cooked
  • takes only 2 minutes to cook
  • maximises the nutrients compared to the traditional method { stove top boiling }
  • is a great side dish for barbecue parties, get-togethers
  • doesn't really require any recipe
  • is all about dump and start

If you have access to Pressure Cooker, it is one of the recommended ways to cook  Instant Pot Corn on Cob with ease. There are other ways to Cook Corn too!

Boil the Corn, Microwave the Corn the Cob, Grilling and even Cook them on your Barbecue.  I'm waiting for the sun to shine hard and cook the corn ears in foil packets in my barbecue.

You will also love to serve SWEET CORN CHAAT with the boiled sweet corn kernels or make Methi Corn Pulao.

  •  Add Water - To prepare this easy recipe, Add 1 Cup of water in the inside pot of the Instant Pot or any other pressure cooker. Place the Trivet.
  • Pile Corn - Pile as many ears of  Corn on the Trivet as many as you can fit. I have piled two vertically and stacked two horizontally. You can cut them into halves to fit in your IP if it cannot accommodate the whole corn.

Once the Corn is Cooked, there are so many seasonings to choose from. My favourite most is the conventional Salted Butter, but I do love other toppings too for a change.

Corn on the cob seasoning to pick from

  • Salted Butter
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Harissa
  • Garlic Butter
  • Mexican Corn on the Cob -  Brush the corn with melted butter, sprinkle with chilli powder, cheese, cilantro and lime!
  • Chimichurri Sauce

Recipe FAQ's

Cooking corn with husk on

Certainly it is possible. You can cook fresh corn with the husks on. Cut the bottom of the ear of corn, just above the stem. Simple increase the cooking time by one more minute.

What is the recommended cooking time for corn on the cob?

Cooking time can vary between 1 minute to 3 minutes depending upon the altitude and then you can Quick Release any remaining pressure.

Quick Release Vs Natural Pressure Release

I would highly recommend QPR. Shorter cooking time enables maximum flavour retention with the corn.

How to cook frozen corn on the cob in instant pot?

Pour 2 Cups of water in the Instant Pot. Place the frozen corn in the steamer basket. Pressure Cook HIGH for 3 minutes. Quick Release any remaining pressure.

TIPS FOR CORN ON THE COB

Snap the ears of corn into halves if they are too big. By this way, we can easily accommodate more ear of corn for cooking.

Smaller corn ears are easier for kids to handle, so feel free to cut them in halves or quarters while serving.

To brush butter on the corn { Optional } - Cook the Corn as per the recipe below. Discard any water left out in the instant pot and melt butter inside the IP. Use this melted butter to brush on top of the corn, just before serving.

How long would you do 6 cons? I tried at 2 minutes and it was not long enough.

Hi Ashley, It works at 2 minutes for me in 6 qt for 4 corns. May be try 4 minutes for 6 corns. If you are not running short of time, let the pressure release naturally instead of QPR.

It typically works between 1 - 4 minutes depending upon the size of the Instant Pot. For a 8Qt one, it takes longer.
