WHY MAKE  INSTANT POT CHICKPEAS FOR HUMMUS?

Instant Pot Chickpeas is the way to go. Cooking from dried beans is really cheap and affordable as compared to canned chickpeas anytime.

Let me tell you this Instant Pot hummus  is totally recommended as we are going to cook the chickpeas in the Instant Pot without soaking ( NO SOAK CHICKPEAS RECIPE ) . It is just DUMP & START!  Add the Chickpeas, water to the Instant Pot.Secure the lid and pressure cook HIGH for 40-50 minutes.

There is no preparation needed as you can see.

However if you like to soak the dried garbanzo before cooking, you can still do it!! I have got you covered in this post here on How to Cook Chickpeas in Instant Pot.

Soaking the Chickpeas brings down the cooking time by nearly half. So you do end up saving on electricity 🙂

I really love making Instant Pot Hummus, because I can decide on the cooking time for a soft texture or firm texture. Our creamiest Instant Pot Hummus requires softer chickpeas, so ensure they are cooked well.

HOW TO COOK CHICKPEAS IN PRESSURE COOKER

INSTANT POT Hummus Ingredients

Chickpeas or Garbanzo Beans  are the essence of the recipe. The cooked chickpeas are blended into a fine paste. You can either use Store bought Canned Chickpeas or make your own at home. Here’s how I cook my chickpeas in the Pressure Cooker!

Tahini Paste is made with seasame seeds.  You can use homemade tahini paste or use a good quality store bought tahini paste. For this recipe I have used a store bought one.

Which category of Hummus lover are you ? Hummus with Tahini or Hummus without Tahini.  Raise your hands up.. To make Hummus without Tahini, just add all the ingredients to the chickpeas puree

Tahini does adds a zesty tangy flavor, so a lot of people really love it. I do love it too 🙂

Fresh Lemon Juice is the key!  Ready made lemon juice does not give you that quality in your hummus.

Garlic Cloves – Use fresh garlic for this recipe. Garlic puree has a preservative that can alter the flavor of the houmous. Some people like to go overboard with garlic, whilst some love it just enough.

Olive Oil – adds that feeling of richness and luxury to your hummus. Don’t skip the step where you add them to your blender to mix it well.

We also love to go a bit overboard by drizzling on the top.

Cumin Powder adds amazing flavours to the hummus. I can’t think of leaving them out.

Salt

Apart from the classic hummus, add seasonal ingredients to flavor them.  I like to add Beetroot to my Beet Hummus , Avocado in my Avocado Hummus.  You can add some Red Pepper, Pinenuts and Sumac too for variation.

Add Jalapenos for heat and you have Jalapeno Hummus.

HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT HUMMUS ?

Everyone has their own way of making this dip. Honestly, I have also got my spin on the recipe.

This recipe is really simple to make.

It uses simple fresh 7 ingredients in the recipe with 4 basic steps

  1. Cook  chickpeas aka garbanzo beans
  2. Blend Tahini, garlic and lemon Juice
  3. Add Olive Oil, Salt, Chickpeas, Cumin, water and blend until smooth.
  4. Season & garnish.

To make a good Hummus dip, it all starts with Chickpeas.

Cook the Chickpeas in the Instant Pot –  Place the chickpeas with a bayleaf and water. Cook in the IP for 50 minutes,

Blend Tahini  Blend the garlic, lemon juice and tahini until you have a smooth paste.

Add Chickpeas Add the cooked chickpeas when it is still hot, salt, olive oil  into the high speed blender and process until smooth. Some people like creamy thick hummus but I like it creamy and ultra fluffy. Add 1/2 a cup of  water or chickpeas stock to the blender to achieve the consistency you like. If needed add another 2 -3 tbsp at a time.

To serve INSTANT POT HUMMUS  –  drizzle lots of olive oil before serving and sprinkle some paprika powder or sumac.
