This Instant Oats idli is made with oats, semolina, yogurt, veggies and seasoning. This recipe  is instant, healthy, quick and easy and No fermentation is required !!

Serve this delicious Healthy Breakfast - Oats Idli with Potato Sagu { Potato Curry} and masala chai at breakfast times.

Instant Oats Idli

We all love Crispy Dosa & Soft and Fluffy Idli for breakfast along with some Tiffin Sambar, Chutney's or Potato Sagu.

However whenever I run out of Idli Batter, I always end up making this INSTANT OATS IDLY OR RAVA IDLI. Both the recipes can be made almost instantly and no fermentation process required.

This recipe does not require any rice and urad dal unlike our staple idli recipes. For those of you who are not familiar with Idli, Idli batter is made with Rice and Urad Dal. Grind them to a batter and place them in a warm place to ferment the batter.

This recipe is based on my recipe for Rava Idli. I have replaced a portion of rava / semolina for oats. It really works well!!

Instant Idlis are one of the healthiest and most delicious recipes to include Oats in our diet. I like to stand by it. Pour the prepared idli batter in the idli stand and steam them to make soft and spongy perfect idli.

HOW TO MAKE OATS IDLI STEP BY STEP

HOW TO MAKE OATS IDLI STEP BY STEP

To make the idli batter, prepare the seasoning, roast the oats flour, semolina, mix the ingredients.

Seasoning - Heat Ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal. Once mustard begins to splutter, add curry leaves, cashew-nuts. Fry them in low flame for 2 minutes.

Roast Semolina - Add grated ginger, semolina and roast in low flame until you can feel the aroma.

Roast Oats flour - Place the Oats in a blender and grind to a coarse powder.

Next, place the oats flour in a pan and dry roast for two minutes until fragrant. Set it aside and allow it cool down.

Mix the Ingredients - In a mixing bowl, add roasted oats flour, grated carrots and coriander leaves.

Add Salt, Curd, Cup Water and mix well. Remember a medium spoonable consistency must be achieved.

If you think the batter is too thick, add a little more water is needed. Remember the batter should not be very thin. Set the batter aside and allow it to settle for at-least 10 minutes.

Steam the Idli - Add fruit salt to the Idli Batter and stir well.

Apply oil to the idli plate. Spoon the prepared idli batter onto the plates and steam them in your pressure cooker or instant pot for approximately 12- 14 minutes. Check by inserting a fork in it. If the Idly's come out clean, we are ready to remove them from the plate.

Serve hot spongy idli with your favourite accompaniment.

Sure, why not? Store in the fridge at night. Reheat until warm and send it in a hot case.

Hi Sandhya. I’m wondering whether one can use oat flour instead of rolled oats, with some adjustment to the quantity of flour ?

      Hi Asha,
I have never used oat flour to make this recipe. However, as Oat flour is made of rolled oats, I don't see why you can't make this recipe with it.
Try it and please do let me know how you get along.

      Thanks,
      Sandhya

Would this batter keep well in the fridge without the baking soda?Or is it best to use immediately ?

I would recommend using the prepared oats idli batter immediately. Alternatively add the baking soda just before steaming the idli.

I haven't added any turmeric. Roasting semolina with tempering is all I have done 🙂
