Here's my 5-minute Vegan Burger Sauce recipe, made with pantry staples you probably already have. It’s a perfect homemade alternative to store-bought sauces. This vegan sauce is great for burgers, sandwiches, or as a dipping sauce —you won’t believe how easy and delicious it is!

I may not be fully vegan, but this vegan burger sauce is one I make all the time. Its also delicious with most appetisers - think air fryer chunky chips, onion bhajis(yes it is!) or popcorn cauliflower. While my favorite veggie burger patty is frying, I usually get this sauce ready to go.
Because I make it so often, I simply eyeball the proportions and its still perfect every single time!

💛Why I Love Making This Vegan Burger Sauce All The Time?
It takes me just 2 minutes to make this sauce—no fancy blender needed. It’s creamy and smooth, with a Big Mac-style flavor that makes any burger taste better.
My son doesn’t like full-fat mayonnaise, but he loves this sauce on his burgers. At GBK in the UK, he even asks to swap the regular mayo for burger sauce every time. That’s why I keep making this vegan Big Mac-style sauce at home.
👩🏻🍳Sandhya’s Top Tips
- Most of the ingredients in this burger sauce are irreplaceable. You can only swap the variety of mustard or hot sauce depending on what you like.
- If you’re not vegan, feel free to use full-fat mayonnaise—the classic version is just as tasty.
- This homemade burger sauce is so much better and cheaper than store-bought, and it doubles up as a great dipping sauce.
- It takes me about 2-3 minutes to gather the ingredients and 2 minutes to make the sauce from start to finish—no cooking, no chopping, just a bowl and a whisk. There is no need to use a high speed blender or any other fancy gadget.
- Make it ahead and store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
📋Ingredients & Substitutes
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

- Vegan Mayonnaise – I like using Heinz Vegan Mayo as it’s easy to find in most grocery stores, but any egg-free mayo will do.
- Tomato Ketchup – Adds that tangy, sweet flavor. Use your favorite brand
- Hot Sauce – I add just a teaspoon, enough to bring the flavors together without overpowering.
- Pickle Juice or Jalapeño Juice – This is just the brine from the jar, usually made with vinegar and spices. Adding a little gives the sauce the right acidity and flavor. I don’t add chopped pickles or sweet pickle relish, as we like the sauce smooth.
- Garlic Powder – Don't use fresh garlic as it can overpower the flavors.
- Mustard – Dijon Mustard is my go-to for maximum flavor, but yellow mustard works just as well. I’ve used whichever I had in the fridge.
- Salt & Pepper – Add to taste.
- Onion Powder (optional) – If you have it, add some in. It’s lovely in the sauce.
Substitutions
- White Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar – Works well in place of pickle juice or jalapeño juice.
- Hot Sauce – Sriracha is a good swap, but don’t be tempted to add too much.
- Mayonnaise – If you’re not vegan, you can use regular full-fat mayonnaise instead of vegan mayo.
🔪How to Make Vegan Burger Sauce?

Step 1. Add all the ingredients to a bowl and whisk them together vigorously until smooth.

Step 2. Transfer the vegan burger sauce to a mason jar or any airtight container, and it’s ready to use.
🧂Storing Leftovers
I usually make just the right amount of Vegan Big Mac Secret Sauce. But if you have leftovers, store them in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 5 days.
🍽 Serving Ideas Besides Burger
This vegan burger sauce goes well with almost anything! Spread it on burgers, inside Mumbai sandwiches, over air fryer chunky chips, as a dip for crispy potato slices, or even with air fryer veggie fajitas.
Thin the sauce with a little bit of vinegar and drizzle over salads or buddha bowl.
❓Recipe FAQs
This recipe makes about 12 tablespoons of burger sauce enough for 6 servings. The amount may vary depending on how much sauce is used each time, but it’s usually enough for several burgers or sandwiches.
Homemade vegan burger sauce can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days. For best results, store it in a mason jar or any glass jar with a tight lid. Sometimes it may last a little longer, but it's safest to eat it within the first 5 days.
