Golden Turmeric Milk ( Haldi Doodh ) is a delicious comforting drink made with turmeric, milk, and spices. The perfect home remedy beverage especially when you are suffering from cold, cough, and congestion.

About Golden Turmeric milk recipe

This Golden Turmeric Milk is creamy, delicious, naturally sweetened, and packed with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. I have been meaning to share my Family's golden milk recipe for a very long time and here it is!

Some people call Tumeric milk - Turmeric Latte or Manjapodi Paal { in Tamil } or Haldi Doodh { in Hindi }.

There is no hard and fast rule to include all the spices mentioned below to stir up a great Golden Turmeric Milk.  The Key is Turmeric, Pepper, and Milk - together they have healing properties for a cold, cough, and congestion. The rest of the ingredients add delicious flavors to Haldi Doodh.

Not a fan of Black pepper, leave it out.

Also, remember never to cook with Honey. Instead, add the honey to the drink, once the golden milk is strained.

Don't like Honey, add any other sweetener of your choice.

Do you cook without turmeric?

Turmeric also known as Haldi, is one of the most essential ingredients in an Indian Kitchen. I really cannot imagine stirring up a Dal or a curry without turmeric. It just doesn't end there - I add turmeric to my stir fry veggies, air fryer roast potatoes, paneer tikka, and even rice! The first ingredient I would reach out for is Turmeric.

Growing up in India, my grandma and mum would add Turmeric in literally most dishes - right from Dal to curry.

In recent years, Turmeric has been arguably the hottest ingredient on-trend as per Google. I was surprised to see that Costco sells Turmeric Capsules and T2Tea sells a Pot of Gold with nearly a similar combination of spices.

Did you know Turmeric has got fabulous healing properties?

Whether you have a cut or bruise, my mom would add a pinch of ground turmeric on it. Although I would feel the sting, she would tell me - it is a natural healer. She would also make me a glass of this turmeric milk. Unknowingly we have been drinking a lot of goodness all throughout 🙂

My other half always stirs up this Golden Turmeric Milk at the first whizz of cold, cough, or even sneeze. He creates this magic portion of ingredients with turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon and then stirs it into warm milk. This combination just works like a magic healing drink.

Have you tried a Turmeric face pack? Mix ¼ teaspoon of Turmeric with 2 teaspoon Chickpeas Flour, ½ teaspoon Honey, and a little Milk. Combine to make a paste and apply them on your face. Once it dries, wash your face with cold water and pat dry. Trust me, you are going to love this natural Golden Face Pack made with frugal ingredients.

What is Golden Milk?

Golden milk is also known as Turmeric milk in English, Haldi Doodh in Hindi, Manjapodi Paal in Tamil. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it the perfect drink especially when you are under the weather.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Golden Milk ( Haldi Doodh )

You will need a handful of basic ingredients to make this comforting Golden milk beverage.

Dairy or Non-Dairy milk - You can use any milk of your choice - Regular 4% fat whole milk or 2% fat Semi-Skimmed milk, Soy milk, Almond milk, cashew milk, or even Coconut milk. Add the turmeric and the rest of the ingredients other than sweetener to the milk and bring it to a simmer. Turn it off, strain, and serve.

Turmeric is the key ingredient. I like to use Ground Turmeric as it's always stacked in my spices drawer. You can also use Fresh Turmeric shoots instead. Thinking about what else to make with Turmeric, try this Turmeric Hummus

Black Pepper - Both Whole and Ground Pepper works in the recipe. If I am making in a saucepan, I like to use whole spices.

Ginger - Fresh ginger is great in this hot soothing drink like Masala Chai. However Ground Ginger also works well.

Cinnamon - Again both cinnamon stick and ground cinnamon would work well.

Sweetener - Your choice of sweetener. If you are making Vegan Turmeric milk, use maple syrup, dates syrup, or even Sugar.

How to make Instant Turmeric Milk / Golden Milk?

Warm the milk either on a saucepan or in the microwave or from your coffee machine. Stir in Turmeric, Ground Pepper, Cinnamon into the warm milk and enjoy.

You can sweeten the drink to your liking and enjoy turmeric milk instantly.

How to make Vegan Golden milk?

To make Vegan Golden turmeric milk, use your favorite Non Dairy milk in the recipe. Heat the milk and the rest of the ingredients in low heat and bring it to a simmer, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the sweetener, if you like. Strain and enjoy this Vegan golden milk.

I have to admit...I've only ever used store bought mix for making golden milk or got it at a cafe. This recipe sounds so simple though you have convinced me to try it on my own from scratch!! Love your photos of the spices 🙂
