This vibrant yellow hummus has multipurpose use. It not only serves as a dip for your veggie sticks and pita bread, it is great as a sandwich spread and works like chutney too with your homemade naan bread.

HAVE I TOLD YOU BEFORE –  Turmeric is one such ingredient in an Indian Kitchen that is used in almost most recipes like curries, stews and flatbreads.  My mum had taught me to throw in turmeric in literally everything she cooks.  I even remember asking her –

Why use turmeric in cooking / recipes?

My mum explained me patiently how good is turmeric for heath. Turmeric has healthy antibodies and this in turn is important for our immune system. Turmeric is also known as Haldi in Hindi & Manjal in Tamil.

Apart from all the goodness, turmeric adds a deep golden hue to the food. It brings our warm flavors in curries or stew.

To make Yellow rice, simply stir in 1/2 tsp of turmeric to water while cooking the rice.

For your curries, add a 1 tsp of turmeric along with the vegetables.

For Aloo Paratha or Potato flatbread – I like to add at least 1/2 tsp of turmeric to the mashed potatoes along with other spices.

Chickpeas is the key element of our hummus. Don’t have cooked chickpeas or canned chickpeas – I  show you how to make COOKED CHICKPEAS FROM DRIED BEANS IN JUST ONE HOUR IN MY ULTIMATE GUIDE.

TIPS TO MAKE CREAMY HUMMUS WITH TURMERIC

Blend Tahini Paste & Lemon Juice first –  makes a huge difference in taste. you need to process them for at least 1 minute before adding the remaining ingredients.

Hate strong flavors of turmeric – If you do not like strong flavours of turmeric, Do feel free to reduce by half.  Keep in mind, the color might not be as golden as in the images.

Variations–  Add ginger and cinnamon to you hummus.

Should I peel the chickpeas for creaminess?  – Peeling the cooked chickpeas is slightly laborious. But yes, peeling the chickpeas will give you extra creamy texture. PS: I have not peeled the chickpeas for this recipe, still its light and creamy.

Food Processor makes the difference too!  A good food processor saves save hours of mundane work like chopping, slicing, grating and mixing.
