Soya chunks manchurian

Soya Chunks Manchurian is popular Indo Chinese dish paired with Vegetable Fried Rice or even Noodles.  Try this new Protein loaded Manchurian if you are looking for an alternative to Gobi Manchurian or Vegetable Manchurian.

I made them to pair with my Fried Rice a couple of month’s ago hence its a bit saucy. If you like to enjoy them as a starter , make it semi-saucy or with a little sauce to cover the Soya balls. Very occasionally do we deep fry anything in our house, and I really mean it.. So deep fried treats once a blue moon is allowed. Don’t you agree:)

Ingredients
1 Cup Soya chunks
2 Tblspn Plain Flour/ Maida
1 Tblspn Corn Flour
1 Tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1/2 Tsp Chilli Powder
Salt To Taste
1/2 Tsp Pepper
Oil to fry

For the Gravy

1 Onion finely chopped
1 Red Pepper finely chopped
2 Spring Onions separated into white and green and chopped finely
2 Green chillies finely chopped
3 Cloves of Garlic, finely chopped
2 Tsp Grated Ginger
1 Tsp Vinegar
2 tsp Soya Sauce
1 tsp Chilli Sauce
1 tsp Tomato Ketchup
2 tsp Corn Flour diluted in 4 tsp of water
Salt To Taste

Lemon Juice to squeeze ( Optional)

Directions:
Soak the Soya chunks into a pan of boiling water for at least 10 minutes, squeeze out the water and set the chunks aside. If the size of the soya chunks is too large, cut them into 2.
In a small mixing bowl, mix Plain flour, corn flour, ginger garlic paste, chilli powder, pepper powder, soya chunks & the needed salt.
Heat oil in a pan, deep fry the Soya chunks and drain them onto a plate.

To prepare the gravy, heat oil in a wok and add ginger, garlic, chopped green chillies and saute for 1 minute. Add chopped onions, white part of spring onions followed by red pepper in order and saute for another 4 minutes in total. Add Soya sauce, chilli sauce, vinegar and tomato ketchup and mix well. Add 3/4 a Cup of boiling water to the mixture and mix well.
Mean while, make a cornflour paste and stir in. This will thicken the gravy.
Taste and Season with salt.
Add the fried Soya Chunks to the mixture and saute for 2 minutes. ( Do add it just before serving the manchurian, else the chunks will get soft, rather than retaing the crispy texture.)

Garnish with green scallions of Spring Onions and squeeze of lemon juice. Serve with Veg fried rice or Vegetable Noodles.
