ABOUT THIS BEET CHIPS
Homemade Beet chips are simply the best and I mean it! You do not require any prior experience or skills for making them at home. These Chips are super addictive – I can certainly vouch that you just can’t stop with One!
Sometime last year when we visited our friends for dinner, they had offered us a portion of the Root Vegetable Chips. It had Turnips, Beetroot, Carrots, Sweet Potato etc.. We all loved it so much that we had to request them for more. After a while, the host brought the tub of these crunchy onto the table. Believe it or not – the whole tub was gone in a few minutes amongst 10 of us. Scanning through the label we realised it was from Costco and it was on popular demand thereafter.
Since they do mega size portions, buying them regularly never happened . But our love for these root vegetable chips always lingered around.
Making these easy Beet Chips have been on my list for a while and it happened the very next day. Trust me they were all nearly gone the same day leaving only 1 portion, just for the pictures. I had to Shoo my husband away when he actually reached out to the last lot.
We did not have any guilt of gobbling any of these chips as they were absolutely healthy and we know what went into it. In fact, these chips have gone up onto my weekly menu for the following week. Isn’t it great news!!
I have made these Beet Chips in my Instant Pot Duo Crisp Airfryer & Philips Viva Air fryer on numerous occasions – these are amazing!
Now my daughter calls them Instant Pot Beetroot Chips as I resort to my Instant Pot, most of the time.
I LOVE THIS BEETROOT CHIPS because
- Mind-blowing Food with minimum or No Oil,
- No-Nonsense CHIPS
- Easy cleanup
- Guilt free Snacking
Beet Chips aka Beetroot Crisps are a super healthy snack, that you can enjoy guilt free every single day.
There are so many ways to make Beet Chips at home
- Air fryer Beet Chips
- Dehydrated Beet Chips
- Oven Baked Beet Chips
- Other way to cook Beet Chips is to deep fry them, but then I really cannot call it Healthy!! Can I?
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can always oven bake them. Did you know you can convert your Instant Pot to an Air fryer too if you live in US?
If you live in UK, you can buy Instant Pot Duo Crisp Air fryer that comes with 2 lids from Instant Pot UK or Amazon UK.
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED
You only need 3 ingredients to make beetroot chips, irrespective of the method
Beetroot – Raw beet is all you need. Have you tried this Immune Boosting Beetroot Carrot Juice with any extra beet you may have?
Oil – Any oil works . You can use olive oil or avocado oil or even oil spray.
Salt – Cracked Sea salt is my preference, however table salt is also great.
HOW DO YOU MAKE AIR FRYER BEET CHIPS STEP BY STEP
Prepare the Beetroot for the Chips – Wash the beet well to remove any soil on it. Dry the beet and peel the skin.
Beet can leave out some color on your hands, so wash your hands immediately after you peel it. I really don’t mind about it. Alternatively Lemon Juice or Vinegar works. You can also wear gloves for this process.
Slice the Beetroot Thin – Using a Mandolin Slicer, slice the beetroot thin to 1/16th inch thickness. You can also slice it thin using a knife ( if you have steady hands ). I can highly recommend investing in a mandolin slicer – they are great for slicing!
Season and Serve – Season with Sea Salt & Black Pepper & serve.Enjoy guilt free snacking!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
PRO TIPS TO MAKE BEET CHIPS
It is extremely important to keep the thickness consistent for the chips. If the thickness are not the same, you will find some chips are fried quicker than the rest.
If the beet slices are too thick, the initial dehydrating time will be longer. Method will still remain the same.
DO I NEED TO PREHEAT MY AIR FRYER?
Well the answer is No! You do not need to preheat the Air fryer. In this case, cooking time for the dish can be slightly longer than when you preheat it. When I was making Beet Chips before, I used to preheat the air fryer. But I don’t see any difference whether I preheat or not.
It also makes it easier to arrange your meal in the air fryer basket without getting hot / burnt.
If you decide to preheat the air fryer, cooking time needed might be slightly lesser. I have tried so many recipes where I used to preheat the air fryer. But honestly I really could not justify for most of the dishes.
HOW TO MAKE BAKED BEET CHIPS
Prepare the beetroot similarly as for the air fryer.
Preheat the oven to 200 C/ 400F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
Arrange the beetroot thins separately without overlapping on the parchment paper.
Bake for 10 -15 minutes in the lowest rack until they dry out and you don’t see shiny spots.Beet Chips will crisp as they cool on the pan.
Even if you hate Beet, try one – you will love it – Beetroot Chips !!

HOW DO YOU MAKE BEETROOT CHIPS in AIR FRYER?
Ingredients
- 1 Medium Sized Beetroot
- 1 Tsp Olive Oil
- Salt to taste
- Pepper Optional
Instructions
- Wash the Beetroot, peel the skin and set the skin aside. Using a mandoline slicer, slice them thin. Alternatively, if you don't have a slicer, slice them uniformly thin with your knife.
- Spread the beetroot slices on the paper and place another paper on top of it. Keep it aside for 10 minutes. This process will enable to absorb any extra moisture on the beetroot thins.
- Toss the sliced beetroot in oil and sprinkle with salt on the beet and arrange them in air fryer basket.
- Select the AIRFRY programme. Adjust the +/- keys to adjust theTime and Temperature to 150 C and 15 minutes. Press Start. Flip and turn the beet chips around every 5 minutes, so that they evenly dry out. Increase the temperature to 180C and set the timer for 8-10 minutes. Check every 2 minutes in the process. Beet Chips will curl overall. Allow the chips to cool for 5 minutes and they will crisp well.
- Season with Sea Salt and freshly ground pepper if you like or just munch it as it is.. We love it either way.

Delicious but should have an added warning – eating beetroot every day may cause kidney stones due to the high levels of oxalate. Eat but don’t over indulge. (Spinach and rhubarb are in the same category)
