This fresh and easy no-cook fruit salsa comes together in just 10 minutes with 7 simple ingredients. It’s the best strawberry salsa recipe—a light, flavour-packed summer appetiser that’s perfect for parties or snacking!

I’ve been making fresh strawberry salsa every summer for years, and it’s always a huge hit with friends and family along with this Mexican Mason Jar Salad. It’s fresh, colourful, and full of flavour—sweet, tangy, and spicy. The whole bowl of strawberry salsa served with baked tortilla chips was gone in under 30 minutes when I took it along—everyone loved it!
This recipe was inspired by the mango salsa I made a few years ago one summer (that one didn’t make it to the blog because the photos didn’t turn out—blogger problems!). I love making this salsa along with Foil Packet Potatoes, Quick Veggie Quesadilla, Mango Lemonade for barbecue parties. It’s quick to put together and always the first thing to disappear from the table.

Easy Strawberry Salsa Ingredients
Detailed measurements and ingredients can be found in the recipe card below.

- Strawberries – Use fresh, ripe, in-season strawberries. Frozen strawberries won’t work for this recipe.
- Jalapeño – I love using jalapeños in salsa. They’re mildly spicy, so add as much as you like. Keep the seeds if you want more heat. No jalapeño? Use green chillies instead.
- Red Onion – Red onions add a nice pop of colour and sharpness. You can swap with white onions if that’s what you have.
- Red Pepper - My new favourite addition. When I first shared the recipe, it did not have red pepper. But I highly recommend it for extra crunch and flavour.
- Fresh Coriander leaves(Cilantro) – I never skip this—it adds so much freshness.
- Lemon or Lime – I used Californian lemons because that’s what I had. Lime works just as well, so use whatever’s on hand.
- Maple Syrup – I prefer maple syrup for a light sweetness. Honey works too if that’s what you have.
Popular Substitutions and Additions
- Mix in diced avocado for a Avocado Strawberry Salad, or cucumber for Cucumber Strawberry Salsa.
- Dragon fruit, Mangoes or Pineapples
- Add a pinch of cumin or chaat masala for a fun twist.
- Swap red onion for white or spring onions if you prefer a milder taste.
- Turn it into a fruity salad by adding chopped lettuce or baby spinach and a drizzle of olive oil.
How to Make the Best Strawberry Salsa Recipe?

Step 1 - Add sliced strawberries, diced onions, diced red pepper (optional), jalapeños, chopped cilantro, maple syrup, lemon juice & zest, salt & pepper in a bowl.

Step 2 - Gently stir to combine and serve immediately!
Sandhya's Top Tips
- Like it spicy? – Keep the seeds in the jalapeños. For a milder salsa, remove the seeds before adding.
- To make ahead – Add everything to a bowl and store in the fridge for up to 6 hours but don’t mix. This keeps the strawberries crunchy and the texture just right.
- Frozen Strawberries – Do not use!
- Don’t Be Skimpy with the Lemon Juice.
- Don’t Skip the Maple Syrup - it balances out the flavours in the salsa.
Serving Suggestions
I love serving strawberry salsa with tortilla chips as a light and fresh appetiser. It also pairs beautifully with Foil Packet Potatoes, Quick Veggie Quesadilla, a glass of Mango Lemonade—perfect for Memorial Day celebrations or summer BBQ parties here in the UK!

Storing
I store any leftover strawberry salsa in an airtight container in the fridge. It’s best enjoyed within a day while the strawberries are still fresh and juicy.
Recipe FAQ's
Yes, I often make strawberry salsa up to 6 hours in advance. I add all the ingredients to an airtight container, but I wait to mix everything until just before serving. That way, the salsa stays fresh and keeps its texture—no mushiness!
I store any leftover strawberry salsa in an airtight container in the fridge. It tastes best when eaten within 2 days.
I love adding other fruits like mango or pineapple for a tropical twist. Sometimes I switch up the type of chili to make it more or less spicy, depending on who I'm serving.
I don't recommend at all. They salsa will be mushy.
