Ingredients & Substitutions
To make this dip, you will need three main ingredients - soured cream, mayonnaise, chives. Plus the seasoning to enhance the flavours of the British favourite dip.

- Sour cream: It is the base ingredient in this dip and provides a tangy, creamy base. I just use regular sour cream for that perfect creamy dip. Feel free to substitute it with a low-fat or dairy free ones.
- Mayonnaise: Don't skip it! You can use regular, vegan mayonnaise or light mayonnaise or substitute it with Greek yogurt or sour cream if you prefer.
- Fresh Chives: Adds a mild onion-like flavour and a pop of green colour to the dip. You can substitute fresh chives with dried chives, scallions, or green onions.
- Garlic: I don't like the bite of raw garlic, so I prefer to use garlic powder (granules) instead of fresh minced garlic.
- Onion: I prefer to use onion granules to add a savoury flavour to the dip. You can also use finely chopped red or white onion, shallots, or green onions.
- Lemon: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds a bright and tangy flavour to the dip. Sub with lime juice or vinegar if you prefer.

Variations
- For heat, I sometimes add a splash of hot sauce or chopped jalapeños to give the sour cream dip a kick.
- A bit of taco seasoning, tomatoes, and cheese turns it into a fun Mexican-style dip.
- For a lighter version, I use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream and stir in fresh herbs like dill or parsley.
- To make it ahead, I mix everything and chill it for a few hours—the flavours get even better.
- For dairy-free, use a plant-based sour cream(make it at home!) and vegan mayo. It still turns out creamy and delicious.
