Ingredients & Substitutions
To make this dip, you will need three ingredients – soured cream, mayonnaise, chives. Plus garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and lemon juice to enhance the flavours of the British favourite dip.
Sour cream: Soured cream is the main ingredient in this dip and provides a tangy, creamy base. You can use regular sour cream or substitute it with a low-fat or non-fat version if you prefer a healthier option.
Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise adds a richness and creaminess to the dip. You can use regular, vegan mayonnaise or light mayonnaise or substitute it with Greek yogurt or sour cream if you prefer.
Chives: Fresh chives add a mild onion-like flavour and a pop of green colour to the dip. You can substitute fresh chives with dried chives, scallions, or green onions.
Garlic: For a milder garlic flavour, I prefer to use garlic powder instead of fresh minced garlic.
Onion: I prefer to use Onion powder to add a savoury flavour to the dip. You can also use finely chopped red, white onion, shallots or green onions.
Salt & Pepper: Adjust the amount of salt and pepper to suit your preferences.
Lemon: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds a bright and tangy flavour to the dip. You can substitute lemon juice with lime juice or vinegar if you prefer.
